We also process limited, anonymous usage analytics and crash diagnostics to keep the app working and improve it.
Do we process sensitive personal information? No. We do not process special-category data such as racial or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, or religious beliefs.
Do we collect information from third parties? No. We do not buy or collect personal information about you from third parties.
Do we sell your information or use it for advertising? No. We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising or cross-app tracking.
How do we share information? Only with the service providers that help us run the app (Apple, PostHog, and Google/Firebase Crashlytics), and only as needed to provide the Services. See Section 3.
What are your rights? Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information. See Section 8.

1. WHAT INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT?
In Short: Your location and visit data is processed on your device and is not sent to us. We process only limited, anonymous usage and diagnostic data.
Locatale does not require an account, and you do not provide us with your name, email address, phone number, or payment details to use the app.
Location and visit data (processed on your device). Locatale uses your device’s location in the background to automatically detect when you stop at a place and to match those stops to nearby points of interest. This location and visit data is stored on your device and, if you enable iCloud sync, in your personal Apple iCloud account, which we cannot access. We do not transmit your location history to our servers, and we do not send your location to any analytics or advertising provider. When matching a visit to a place, your coordinates are sent to Apple Maps (MapKit) momentarily to look up nearby places; these lookups are not retained by us.
Content you create in the app. Place names, tags, notes, and custom labels you create are stored on your device and, if enabled, in your iCloud account. We do not receive this content.
Photos (matched on your device). If you grant Locatale access to your photo library, the app matches photos you took at a place and time to the corresponding visit, entirely on your device. Your photos are never uploaded and are not sent to us or to any third party; Locatale only displays them from your library. You can limit or revoke photo library access at any time in your device settings.
Usage and analytics data. We use PostHog (hosted in the EU) to understand how the app is used so we can improve it. PostHog receives only anonymous events (such as screen views and app lifecycle events) and non-identifying app-state flags such as whether you have premium, whether a home location is set, whether iCloud sync is enabled, and the app version. We do not send your name, email, location coordinates, or other directly identifying information to PostHog.
Diagnostics and crash data. We use Firebase Crashlytics (provided by Google) to diagnose crashes and improve stability. Crashlytics collects crash reports and technical device information such as device model, operating system version, and app version.
Purchase data. If you buy a premium subscription, the purchase is processed by Apple through the App Store. We receive your subscription/entitlement status from Apple; we do not receive or store your payment card details.
We do not process sensitive (special-category) personal information.
2. HOW DO WE PROCESS YOUR INFORMATION?
In Short: We process information to provide and improve the Services, keep them secure and stable, and comply with the law.
We process the limited information described above to:
- Provide and operate the Services — including detecting visits and matching them to places on your device.
- Improve the Services — analyzing anonymous usage trends to make the app better.
- Maintain security and stability — diagnosing crashes and preventing errors and abuse.
- Manage your subscription — confirming your premium entitlement via Apple.
- Comply with legal obligations.
Legal bases (EEA/UK users). We rely on: performance of a contract (to provide the app and your subscription); our legitimate interests (to analyze usage, fix crashes, and keep the Services secure); your consent where required (for example, granting location or photo library permission, which you can withdraw at any time in your device settings); and compliance with legal obligations.
3. WHEN AND WITH WHOM DO WE SHARE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?
In Short: We share information only with the service providers that help us run the app. We do not sell or share your personal information for advertising.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We disclose information only to the following service providers, acting on our behalf under data processing agreements:
- Apple — App Store and StoreKit (subscription processing), iCloud/CloudKit (optional sync of your own data, which we cannot access), and MapKit (looking up nearby places).
- PostHog (EU) — anonymous product analytics.
- Google / Firebase Crashlytics — crash and diagnostic reporting.
We may also disclose your information if required to do so by law, or in connection with a business transfer such as a merger, financing, or acquisition of all or part of our business.
4. DO WE USE COOKIES AND OTHER TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES?
In Short: Locatale is a mobile app and does not use cookies or web tracking technologies for advertising.
Locatale is a native mobile application and does not use browser cookies or web beacons. Our analytics and diagnostics providers use device-level identifiers solely to operate their services on our behalf; this information is not used for advertising or to track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
5. IS YOUR INFORMATION TRANSFERRED INTERNATIONALLY?
In Short: Some service providers process information outside your country.
We are based in Poland. The service providers we use may process information in the European Union (PostHog) and the United States (Apple, Google/Firebase). If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom (UK), or Switzerland, your information may be transferred to countries that do not have equivalent data protection laws. Where this occurs, such transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards, including the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, as incorporated into our providers’ data processing terms.
6. HOW LONG DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION?
In Short: Your on-device data stays until you delete it. Analytics and diagnostics are kept only as long as necessary.
Your visit and place data is kept on your device (and your iCloud account, if enabled) until you delete it or uninstall the app. Anonymous analytics data held by PostHog and crash data held by Firebase Crashlytics are retained only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Notice, in line with our providers’ standard retention periods, after which it is deleted or anonymized.
7. DO WE COLLECT INFORMATION FROM MINORS?
In Short: We do not knowingly collect data from or market to children under 16.
The Services are not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@locatale.app and we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
8. WHAT ARE YOUR PRIVACY RIGHTS?
In Short: Depending on where you live, you may review, change, or delete your information at any time.
Depending on your location, you may have the right to: request access to your personal information; request correction or deletion; restrict or object to processing; request portability; and withdraw consent at any time.
Because most of your data is stored on your device, you can exercise many of these rights directly: edit or delete individual visits and places in the app, turn location or photo permission off in your device settings, disable iCloud sync, or uninstall the app to remove its on-device data.
Withdrawing your consent: Where we rely on your consent (for example, location or photo library access), you may withdraw it at any time in your device settings or by contacting us. This will not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
EEA/UK users also have the right to lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority. In Poland, this is the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (Prezes Urzędu Ochrony Danych Osobowych, UODO).
To make a request, contact us at support@locatale.app.
9. DO WE MAKE UPDATES TO THIS NOTICE?
In Short: Yes, we will update this notice as necessary to stay compliant with relevant laws.
We may update this Privacy Notice from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by an updated “Last updated” date at the top of this Notice. If we make material changes, we may notify you within the app or by other appropriate means. We encourage you to review this Notice periodically.
10. HOW CAN YOU CONTACT US ABOUT THIS NOTICE?
If you have questions or comments about this notice, you may contact us by email at support@locatale.app.
11. HOW CAN YOU REVIEW, UPDATE, OR DELETE THE DATA WE COLLECT FROM YOU?
You have the right to request access to the personal information we process, to correct inaccuracies, or to delete it, subject to applicable law. Because your visit and place data is stored on your device, you can review, update, or delete most of it directly in the app or by uninstalling. For anything else, contact us at support@locatale.app.
